Yellow Candles
Dear EBJC Family,
To mark Yom HaShoah this year, Men's Club will be distributing Yellow Candles in memory of the Holocaust. For well over a decade our synagogue has participated in this program. We ask that you join us on Sunday night, May 5, the eve of Yom HaShoah by lighting the Yellow Candle, placing it in a prominent place and reciting the meditation that can be found below. As part of the worldwide Jewish community and our own EBJC family it is our moral obligation to honor and remember the Six Million who perished in the Holocaust. If you haven't received your candle or have misplaced your candle, please email us at howardjacobs@ebjc.org
In the spirit of remembrance, we encourage you to give tzedakah in memory of those who did not survive the Holocaust. Funds received go primarily to support Holocaust related causes. In the past, we subsidized Hebrew School trips to the Jewish Heritage Museum, and purchased copies of Megillat HaShoah to enhance our annual Commemoration of Holocaust and Heroism service. This year we intend to work with Rutgers to support Holocaust education.
Thank you to those who have volunteered their time to help pack and distribute candles and coordinate our Yom Hashoah programming. Through your generosity, we can continue to distribute candles every year and to pledge our collective support to an organization dedicated to keeping the memory of the Six Million alive, even as the number of survivors dwindle.
Sincerely,
Arthur Fliegelman
